Event Description (include how you believe this will empower and educate women and girls)

Back by popular demand!  The Red Tent Women's Project is excited to present a book reading with Elizabeth Abbott, author of A History of Marriage, A History of Celibacy, A History of Mistresses, and other works.

What is marriage?  What does it mean to be married? Why do we care? The Red Tent Women's Project presents Elizabeth Abbott in a New York City reading of A History of Marriage. Abbott deftly takes on the institution of marriage, the intersection of public and private, and explores same-sex unions, arranged marriages, dowries, self-marriages, and child brides in her latest work. She puts a human face on marriage as she explores its nature in the context of love, sex, loyalty, childrearing, shared finances, and social recognition.

Join us at Bluestockings Bookstore--NYC's feminist bookstore--for a reading and a Q&A, facilitated by our own Director, Eryka Peskin.
