Eryka Peskin commented on Anicka Bäckström's blog post 'So what awaits the world of women?'
So I have finally jumped on the bandwagon here in NYC and started watching Mad Men. For those of you who don't know, it's a show set in the 60s about an advertising company. I've watched two episodes, and all I could think was, okay,…

Hi Anicka It's great to see you blogging, and what challenging words! I personally think we're blocked as long as we try to fit into - or take our place in, or take over - the male-dominated world system. I think it's time we broke…

So what awaits the world of women?

48 different women total including cosmonauts, astronauts, payload specialists and foreign nationals have flown in space. So women can fly to the moon but they can't have equality in the boardroom, parliament or society. Surely this is rather parochial?President Nixon once said "I’m not for women in any job. I don’t want any of them around. Thank God we don’t have any in the cabinet ... I don’t think a woman should be in any government job whatever. I mean, I really don’t. The reason why I do is…See More

Profile Information

What issues are most important to you?
I would like someday to work with and to protect women/girls and also men/boys from the sex trade, I feel very strongly about that.
What kind of social activism do you engage in?
I'm in a choir, I also do worship dance, swiming,, rambling, etc
What organizations do you love or work with?
My Worship team, my Choir, Church
What books, music, films, etc. do you think educate and empower women?
Have never thought about books, music and films in that way!!!!!!!
Career: what do you do or want to do?
What I do and what I want to do is two completely different things!!!
What skills and interests to do you have to offer to others in the Red Tent Women's Project communty? This is your chance, so sell yourself!
I love my Worship dance and I don't think there is so many of you who do that!!? I am also a Florist and a Holistic Therapy so I can do beautiful arrangement for people when they need it and I can also do some massage for people. I love my craft work so I also do Cards that I try to sell. I have my own website etc but it is harder then I thought!!
What would you like other members of this community to know? About yourself, about the world...anything (try not to be profane, though)!
There isn't much to tell about myself more then I'm from Sweden. I have lived in Birmingham for 11 years now and I like it here. About the world.........Well, the rest of the world should be very thankful for us women because without us there wouldn't be any life on this planet!!!
What was your "women really matter and I'm going to do something about it" moment?
It is really strange, now when you are asking me that question it is completely blank!!!!!!! I have to think about that for a while..........I don't know if I have any, I would probably never have thought about it in that way........

Hi Anicka

I think I did something to the Red Tent (Heart of England) that gave members the option of changing the appearance of their page. That might not be the case here.

Looking forward to our card-making!!! I'll be setting off from home at 5 - email me your precise address so I can come and pick you up in the taxi, OK?

xx Jan

That would be lovely and it would be nice to meet someone from The Red Tents - I haven't actually met Jan yet face to face! - but don't tire yourself out! I'm going to be doing facials at the Make over day in September - there will be a small charge for that to cover costs! - and I'm always available to do a party in your home for you, family and friends! Hope to see you on Saturday but if not I'll see you at the picnic? xx
