Profile Information

What issues are most important to you?
For kids: education, nutrition, imaginative play
For adults: Restructuring old thought habits, Environment, decent job opportunities, ending sweatshop/slave labor and human trafficking for sex or labor, interspirituality
What kind of social activism do you engage in?
Varies; have been in women's activist groups, socialist groups, art groups that all did political action
What organizations do you love or work with?
Art from Ashes -- uses poetry therapy to empower at-risk youth
What would you like other members of this community to know? About yourself, about the world...anything (try not to be profane, though)!
The days of the Sad Militant are over. It is important to be able to address serious issues and maintain a sense of balance. Also to approach the abominable with humor when appropriate and possible. To sink into the foul energy of anger and resentment is to diminish our power.
What was your "women really matter and I'm going to do something about it" moment?
My feminist consciousness was aroused back in the 70s, and I have no clear recollection of any particular moment. It was a delicious perfume in the air at that time. Instead of romance novels, women I respected were reading "The Second Sex" by De Beauvoir. They were reading all the feminists of that period. We were young, we had access to new and exciting information, and the culture we lived in -- though it desperately wanted to repress us -- couldn't resolve the contradictions that provided the space through which we could see the light.
