Profile Information

What issues are most important to you?
emotional well-being: helping people realise that they are beautiful, wonderful and can grow in confidence - then they can do the things that all their abilities allow them to do!
Also, social justice across the world and living a light carbon lifestyle
What kind of social activism do you engage in?
emailing MP and government about political issues
What organizations do you love or work with?
I work with Spring to Life - promoting emotional well-being
What books, music, films, etc. do you think educate and empower women?
I am generally inspired by people I meet for real rather than through the arts. But reading The Female Eunuch was a turning point. Also Small is Beautiful by Schumaker ( possibly?), another book from the 1970s urges us all to be satisfied without corporate growth and personal greed - how prophetic!! And then I read the Bible and found Jesus wasn't anti-feminist at all, but honours women in a way that totally broke with the conventions of his day!
Career: what do you do or want to do?
I teach music and run a consultancy in Educational Kinesiology
What skills and interests to do you have to offer to others in the Red Tent Women's Project communty? This is your chance, so sell yourself!
I can offer my creativity and want to try out running a drumming workshop; I have also almost completely defeated migraines and would like to run a support network or group for women who suffer from migraines.
What would you like other members of this community to know? About yourself, about the world...anything (try not to be profane, though)!
I want people to know about themselves - that they are a splendid loveable person and that God loves them more than we can ever imagine
What was your "women really matter and I'm going to do something about it" moment?
When I read the Female Eunuch way back in the 70s, I realised that there was a revolution coming. Before that, I thought that men were a more important gender and just wished I had been born a man. I had been trying to "wear the trousers" in my relationships and thought that being a woman was second best. It has taken me a long time to feel comfortable with who I am. Sadly the revolution had a twist in its tail and now women seem to be more pressured than ever before, while men feel more disempowered. What went wrong?? Let's find out!

Hi Liz

Nice to see you here! Your comment is simultaneously challenging and encouraging as usual. Where would I be without you?! Just been chatting to Anthea about Makeovers & More on 19th Sept, and it seems we're all set for that. Lots of space, as you know, so feel free to invite a few extra ladies, OK? Any friend of yours is a friend of mine...

Hugs, Jan
