Hi sisters!
A year and a half ago, following my bipolar diagnosis and the loss of home, husband, career, I moved into council housing: an Assisted Living housing estate for the over-50s (so lots of crones around me!), consisting of 2 8-storey tower blocks surrounded by concrete and grass and not much else. I have four adult children - two girls and two boys - and I love them all so dearly. The youngest, my daughter Julia, is the closest to me for the reason that she alone did not go away to university, but has been around until yesterday morning, when she finally left home to move down south to begin a training course which will launch a globe-trotting career...

What are you doing to celebrate IWD this year? Are you going out with friends to enjoy a cultural or social event? Are you staying in to think of others who cannot or do not feel like celebrating because of where they are and what they've endured? There are so many little things we can do that (in the spiritual scheme of things) make a difference: ring a woman friend, email an encouraging message, take someone out who has mobility problems or financial constraints and treat them... Hi everyone
It's been 6 months since The Red Tent here in Birmingham, England, won funding to produce the first ever women's calendar for our city. Not only does it feature nature photos taken by women in our network and other groups and organisations we're friendly with, but a 4-page directory of useful numbers and addresses specific to Birmingham...
Feedback has been universally positive, and we know of many organisations and individuals around the city…
