What issues are most important to you?
A loving and caring Family, A positive safe community and a healthy environment.
What kind of social activism do you engage in?
As I have muliple black belts in different martial arts I give free sessions of self defence to women groups
What organizations do you love or work with?
As I have had a very close calll with breast cancer, I have been donating part of my wage to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation
What books, music, films, etc. do you think educate and empower women?
Book: Jung Chan "Wild Swans"
Film: "The three Sons" (Swedish)
Music: Annie Lenox; Aretha Franklin
Career: what do you do or want to do?
I have started a company that has developed an innovative program for Personal Safety. It helps cultivate an intuitive awareness and teaches physical self defense to raise an inner strenght.
What skills and interests to do you have to offer to others in the Red Tent Women's Project communty? This is your chance, so sell yourself!
I am 49 years young and have spent the past year amazing doctors on defeating breast cancer that was advanced and type 3 (the most aggressive kind).
I have worked in: advertising/marketing;import on fashion and realestate but my passion has always been my Martial Arts. I have 4th Dan Ju Jitsu, 4th Dan Ido and 2nd Judo. I and my collegue are the first women in Australia to have our Black Belt Certificates signed by a member of the Royal Family of Japan.
I teach people how to increase their physical safety but also raise their instictual awareness to draw on and develop their inner strength. The name of my company is S.I.S. Trainng (Stength In Self)
What would you like other members of this community to know? About yourself, about the world...anything (try not to be profane, though)!
That they are not alone.
What was your "women really matter and I'm going to do something about it" moment?
When I was about 13 years old and I overheard my family discuss my education. The topic was "It didn't really matter about my education because in reality girls get married and have kids anyway!"
