Profile Information

What issues are most important to you?
empowering women to feel that they can think for themselves and make their own decisions.
What kind of social activism do you engage in?
WWOOFing, articles on my blog www.thenewsbase.com
What organizations do you love or work with?
WWOOF - Willing Workers on Organic Farms, I like Dove's self-esteem for girls campaign
What books, music, films, etc. do you think educate and empower women?
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, Alicia Keys, Mona Lisa Smile, Little Black Book, anything by Amy Tan, Whalerider, A Thousand Splendid Suns, most books by Dean Koontz (believe it or not, he really gets the female personality, and understands issues like abuse). Black Snake Moan, Designing Women, Golden Girls, more I can't think of right now.
Career: what do you do or want to do?
I have been a fast food manager, a telemarketer, an insurance salesperson, a wife, mother, homechool teacher, housekeeper, writer, blogger, web designer, WWOOFer, entrepeneuer, and marketer. I go where the wind blows me, and my greatest ambition is to travel more extensively.
What skills and interests to do you have to offer to others in the Red Tent Women's Project communty? This is your chance, so sell yourself!
I'm a writer, and I eventually want to write the story of my life (it's been pretty crazy).
What would you like other members of this community to know? About yourself, about the world...anything (try not to be profane, though)!
The world is a lot bigger than your backyard, your town, your state, your country. Get to know people from around the world. Talk to people and make friends with those who belong to different religions. Eat something you grew with your own hands. Write about your feelings and experiences. Your life will be better for it.
What was your "women really matter and I'm going to do something about it" moment?
I think living in the Gulf Islands and reading the books I found at the free stores about women and "feminism" really helped me to wake up, see myself as a woman, which is special. You don't have to be girly (I'm not) or try to be better than men. Just see that we are different for many reasons, and be aware of it.
