Hi Joyce
I'm glad to be counted in among your friends. Keep blogging. Airing our views is interesting and moves us to action of one kind or another.

Profile Information

What issues are most important to you?
Oppressed peoples all over the world.
Poverty
Social justice
The colonization of the minds of girls by a male dominated society.
What kind of social activism do you engage in?
Nothing very organized, actually.
What organizations do you love or work with?
Am in a women's mentoring support group
What books, music, films, etc. do you think educate and empower women?
Resurrecting Eve (Women of Faith Challenge the Fundamentalist Agenda) by Roberta Mary Pughe and Paula Anema Sohl

the documentary "A Walk to Beautiful" is very powerful for women, in my opinion.

These are just two resources of many that I find educational and empowering for women.
Career: what do you do or want to do?
I would like to be a teacher--have two years of schooling toward that objective.
What skills and interests to do you have to offer to others in the Red Tent Women's Project communty? This is your chance, so sell yourself!
I am a good writer. I am very interested in girls -- listening to them, validating them as valuable and interesting people. I love cats. I enjoy photography and also like to paint.
What would you like other members of this community to know? About yourself, about the world...anything (try not to be profane, though)!
I am a follower of the Christ. But, I hesitate to call myself a christian. I believe that the Christ was liberal...was a feminist...was compassionate to the oppressed and the poor...believed in equal rights for all people...and I believe that when I am loving and caring for any oppressed person or peoples--I am loving God and she/he is loving others through me.
What was your "women really matter and I'm going to do something about it" moment?
I took a women's studies class in college. This class really opened my eyes to the "benevolent patriarch"--the man who feels he is superior to women but who is also kind and providing. I discovered that my father, whom I love very much, is this type of man. After making this discovery, I have been able to see how so many women are kept down by this type of man.
