I am a big believer in supporting other organizations and their missions, especially women's empowerment organizations, and I don't like to badmouth efforts and approaches. There have certainly been times when I've disagreed with methods and sometimes even the outcomes. And I'm sure there are people who've disagreed with the Red Tent's.
(I know this because we've gotten emails. For which I'm grateful...after a few minutes to process.… Continue

Each of us has an overriding emotion, according to experts. Ever asked yourself what yours might be?
Mine has always been anger, but it wasn't until I was diagnosed just under 2 years ago with bipolar (the version that they call cyclothymia, where you experience rapid and abrupt changes in brain nerve cell function, resulting in mood changes - same as Stephen Fry) that I got to work with a psychotherapist and unpack my anger. At the tender age of 51, it was quite an undertaking

Did you know that New Year's Eve is the biggest night of the year for birth control accidents? Amid all the celebrating, condoms break, pills can be forgotten. This year the Back Up Your Birth Control campaign has started a new project - www.DontDropTheBall.org - to remind women that even though mistakes happen, emergency contraception is available over-the-counter in pharmacies for women and men 17 and older, and can help prevent preg… Continue
On 21st December, 4 friends and I were 'croned' - crowned as elders of The Red Tent - at our monthly meeting. It was a very special time for us all. The ceremony itself was very simple, personalized to fit who we are and the time of year (tissue paper crowns, and red candles, and mulled wine to drink).
We listened to a song that's becoming beloved of older women: Susan Boyle's rendering of 'I am who I was born to be' as we sat together, away from the younger women, reflecting on our lives' jour… Continue
Members of the Red Tent (Heart of England) joined tens of thousands of people to encircle the Houses of Parliament yesterday, to encourage the 192 world leaders attending the Copenhagen summit later this month to put into action plans to radically cut carbon emissions over the next few crucial years.

How does the song go? Sorry, I'm giddy. I have been working on my own Red Tent, with inspiration from many of you on here. Thank you all for what you have shared.

My relationship with my moon time changed dramatically one day a few years ago. I was one of those people who came to expect terrible cramps as an inevitable part of the first day of my period, sometimes two days. Since I was trying to avoid taking synthetic pain medication, I would spend the day curled up in fetal position in bed if I could afford to, drinking herb tea and cuddling the hot water bottle. But more often I would have to brave the public world while enduring this constant, sharp, g… Continue
48 different women total including cosmonauts, astronauts, payload specialists and foreign nationals have flown in space.
So women can fly to the moon but they can't have equality in the boardroom, parliament or society. Surely this is rather parochial?
President Nixon once said "I’m not for women in any job. I don’t want any of them around. Thank God we don’t have any in the cabinet ... I don’t think a woman should be in any government job whatever. I mean, I really don’t. The reason why I… Continue
The video below was taken on Menstrual Monday 2008, in the Sebastopol Downtown Plaza.
Menstrual Monday has been celebrated around the world for the past few years, on the Monday before Mother's Day (since you menstruate BEFORE you become a mother, and long after...)
I am deeply passionate about spreading this work among women and girls worldwide.
Enjoy!
