Where women transform the world

On 21st December, 4 friends and I were 'croned' - crowned as elders of The Red Tent - at our monthly meeting. It was a very special time for us all. The ceremony itself was very simple, personalized to fit who we are and the time of year (tissue paper crowns, and red candles, and mulled wine to drink).

We listened to a song that's becoming beloved of older women: Susan Boyle's rendering of 'I am who I was born to be' as we sat together, away from the younger women, reflecting on our lives' journeys, and our feelings about the future, as we made the decision to turn from the past and look with positivity and trust to what lies ahead.

For any woman over fifty, I heartily recommend this rite of passage. When I waver in the face of the problems and challenges that even now besst me, I remind myself of my decision - to trust and embrace my future - and it gives me extra courage.

I wish you all a very happy, successful and peaceful 2010,
Jan
